The NiHMEC 2024 event was deemed timely and commendable, as it addressed the challenges posed by crude oil theft losses and aimed to change Nigeria's negative revenue narrative. While there is a need to emphasize the importance of accurate measurements and fiscalization to avoid negative impacts on revenue, crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism have introduced complex complications to hydrocarbon accounting in Nigeria, prompting the need for change in this area.

Training and capacity development for metering professionals should be taken seriously because any investment in capacity development will immediately benefit the operator's bottom line.
