Fostering open communication and partnerships, stakeholders can collectively address challenges, share best practices, and work towards common goals, ultimately enhancing the reliability and integrity of hydrocarbon measurement and accounting in the industry.

NiHMEC has gained the attention and interest of all the stakeholders in Nigeria’s petroleum industry and globally. At NiHMEC 2024, stakeholders in the oil and gas industry expressed their continuous support for NiHMEC and reiterated that the interest in the conference must be sustained. The discussions at NiHMEC 2024 largely emphasized the need to enshrine proper hydrocarbon measurement and accounting processes to minimize value erosion in the industry.

The NiHMEC 2024 event was deemed timely and commendable, as it addressed the challenges posed by crude oil theft losses and aimed to change Nigeria's negative revenue narrative. While there is a need to emphasize the importance of accurate measurements and fiscalization to avoid negative impacts on revenue, crude oil theft and pipeline vandalism have introduced complex complications to hydrocarbon accounting in Nigeria, prompting the need for change in this area.

Training and capacity development for metering professionals should be taken seriously because any investment in capacity development will immediately benefit the operator's bottom line.
